Job Profile – Management Accountant

Summary of Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Management Accountant will deliver an efficient and proactive finance function to support and facilitate Financial Management, including preparation of monthly management accounts and commentary by liaising with budget holders along with planning, managing, and delivering the budgeting and forecasting process. The role will be responsible for financial modelling to facilitate evidence-based decision making across the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Financial analysis and management:
    • By providing support and guidance from a finance perspective (e.g. financial information and KPI’s) to Department Managers and the Board enabling them to plan and manage financial affairs and to deliver financial plans (budgets and forecasts)
    • Financial forecasting including revenue and capital forecasting, forecast outturns and progress against plan; provide financial benchmarking and appraisal of strategic, investment and infrastructure opportunities and requirements
  • Financial planning and sustainability:
    • Annual budgets, including development of financial plans and budgets for presentation to the Management Team and the Board
    • Create an appropriate Chart of Accounts for the 24/25 budgeting process aligned with the organisation structure effective from June 2025, ensuring it is fit for purpose to be implemented in both Finance and Dealer Management Systems
    • Communicate and train all staff on how the account codes are to be used enabling financial transactions to be aligned with budgets within the Finance system
    • Provide progress against plan and forecast outturns; salary forecasting, cash forecasting; financial forecasting; balance sheet management.
    • Provide training in financial management through workshops for non-finance managers
    • Undertake ad hoc, projects and development of financial policies as directed and guided by the Finance Director
    • Manage, motivate and coach a small finance team
  • Financial control:
    • Ensure all staff clearly understand their roles and responsibilities from a financial perspective
    • Ensure strict credit control
    • Carry out a first line check of all financial claims, commissions, salaries and expenses before payment
    • Implement internal controls to prevent fraud or defalcation and to detect fraud or defalcation should it occur

Person Specification

To take up the role of Management Accountant you will need to be engaged and motivated by the business and its objectives.

You will demonstrate:

  • Commitment to your colleagues, your role and the business
  • Knowledge of and an interest in UK Construction Equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to provide meaningful commentary, explanation and financial analysis to non-finance managers
  • CIMA Part-Qualified or QBE
  • Prior experience of and sole responsibility for preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts and business partnering with non-financial stakeholders in this sector
  • Excellent knowledge of financial and management accounting frameworks, and commercially astute
  • Proven experience in manipulating large data sets to build impactful financial models and reports to support decision making
  • Strong IT proficiency, with emphasis on data sourcing and analysis
  • Excellent analytical and excel skills
  • Diligence with good attention to detail
  • A positive “can do” attitude and flexibility
  • Ability to work as part of a small Finance team, proving guidance, support and cover when necessary
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and that of your team as necessary
  • Ability to meet deadlines with a flexible approach to working hours

Working Hours

This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 5pm with a thirty-minute lunch break.

Location

In person and able to easily commute to both Corby and Leicester offices

Remuneration

£35-£40,000 per annum, dependant on experience.
