HIRING: Workshop Engineer

Due to continued expansion and restructuring, we are looking for an Workshop Based Service Engineer to join our team in Corby, Northamptonshire.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of a wide range of construction machinery, from 1-tonne mini excavators to 80-tonne heavy equipment.

Further to the above this role will require leadership of current PDI engineer and yardman and working with the Service Manager to provide technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safe working practices, special tools, lifting gear, access equipment, daily checks and yard tidiness.
  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on construction equipment within the workshop
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults efficiently and accurately
  • Work on a wide range of machinery including excavators, loaders, dumpers, and other heavy plant (1T–80T)
  • Complete detailed job reports, service records, and inspection documentation
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Liaise with parts and service departments to ensure timely job completion
  • Conduct ACR’s and pre-delivery inspections (PDI) on new & used equipment
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Service Engineer, or similar role within the construction or heavy equipment industry
  • Hands-on experience working with machinery ranging from 1 tonne to 80 tonnes
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Relevant qualifications in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or similar (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent)
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic IT skills for reporting and diagnostics

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with leading equipment brands (e.g., Develon, CAT, JCB, Komatsu, Volvo)
  • Manufacturer training certifications
  • Welding or fabrication skills
  • Forklift licence
