Pioneer Plant recently welcomed Northants Fire and Rescue Service to our Corby depot for a hands on training exercise. It was a great opportunity for their crews to work in a real industrial environment and we were proud to support them.
Working alongside Luke Saunders, Crew Commander at Corby White Watch, and our own Chris Rowlands, we created a realistic and demanding scenario for the visiting crews. The exercise included two main elements:
Scenario one
A simulated workshop fire
Very limited or no visibility
A full search and rescue for missing persons
Breathing apparatus procedures and safe entry drills
Scenario two
A casualty trapped beneath heavy machinery
Safe lifting techniques
Coordination between multiple crews
Recovery and extraction of the casualty
Crews and vehicles attended from Corby, Oakham and Mereway stations. They moved through both scenarios with professionalism and teamwork, applying their training as they would during a real emergency.
Sessions like this are valuable for several reasons:
Crews can work in a genuine industrial environment
Conditions are more realistic than classroom based training
Teams can practise communication under pressure
Firefighters can strengthen their understanding of site layouts, machinery and related risks
For us, it was a privilege to support the exercise and to see the skill and commitment of every firefighter involved. At Pioneer Plant we believe in helping our local community wherever we can, and hosting this session was a meaningful way to contribute.
We would like to thank all of the crews who took part.
